The new law, which enters into force retroactively from 1 January 2014, amends the current law on motor vehicles and traffic, in order to set a maximum annual traffic tax of 300 euros for motor vehicles of category N1, which come from vehicles of category M1 and are classified in the category of light truck van type vehicle and which have been registered in the register of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for the first time before the entry into force of the amended law.

As stated by the rapporteurs of the bill, the President and the Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, the purpose of the new legislation is to correct the error, which affects 2.214 vehicles.

Representatives of the Ministries of Communications and Finance informed the Parliament that they agree with this amendment, while the representative of the Legal Service of the Republic expressed reservations about the possibility that the proposed provision will lead to a reduction of state revenues.

Clarifying on this point, the Road Transport Department stated that the increased traffic fees, as included in the amending law of 2013, were not calculated in the state revenues and, with the retroactivity of the law to be passed, the possibility to the Department to return the amount of the difference to the owners who have already paid the increased fees.
