The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nikolaos Kougialis, today called for the creation of a pan-European crisis management mechanism that will support the income of farmers in every corner of Europe, in case of any crisis in the sector, while ensuring the viability of the industry.

The Minister addressed the appeal to the Council of 28 Ministers of Agriculture in Luxembourg, in the context of the reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy.

"Today at the Council meeting we will discuss a very important issue, the 'omnipass regulation` which is related to the reform of the CAP. "It is our duty as European Ministers to ensure a simpler and more effective common agricultural policy for our farmers, and this is the last chance to achieve this, as the Brexit negotiations will complicate the situation."

He stressed that "for Cyprus the most important issue is the creation of a mechanism that will be able to intervene effectively during any kind of crisis, local or pan-European in order to support the income of our farmers and to ensure sustainability. agricultural sector in every corner of Europe ”.
