Friendly persuasions and even threats have been received by bodies of the supervisory authorities that are investigating the two big scandals in the sewers of Nicosia and Larnaca.

According to reliable sources cited by the newspaper Simerini, in some cases the interventions were made by those involved.

In other cases, the "friendly persuasions" were made by high-ranking party officials. Their purpose, of course, is to make things "soft".

However, the interventions seem to be failing, as the information of Simerini is that the two investigations are at an advanced stage and in fact data have been gathered - capable of making some people lose their sleep.
Specifically, in both cases, labyrinthine transactions of black money and suspicious deposits have been identified in the accounts of persons who held key positions regarding the management of the Nicosia and Larnaca Sewerage.

It is worth noting that the Legal Service instructed investigators to limit themselves to taking statements and not to make arrests.

The two investigated scandals look like a time bomb that when it explodes, will hit many, as the list of those involved is long.

The following are considered suspects:

- Former Municipal Councilors in their capacity as members of the Nicosia and Larnaca Sewerage Councils
- Contractors
- Consulting Engineers
- And other people

The combines that were set up in the sewers were well-built and the investigated offenses, such as piles of investigated offenses:

- Detention of a public official
- Abuse of power
- Transactions with agents that indicate corruption
- Unlawful acquisition of property benefit
- Illegal money laundering - Conspiracy to commit a crime

Indicative of the irregularities and mismanagement of the past in the Sewerage is the report of the Audit Service for the Local Government.

Defects and overpayments

For the Nicosia and Larnaca Sewerage, the Audit Service refers, among other things, to the many defects in the projects and the overpayments of contracts.

Among the various cases, is a specific contract signed by the Nicosia Sewerage Council.

While the initial amount of the contract was seventeen million eight hundred and fifty thousand euros, Symbol Engineers certified that the contractor was paid another eight million euros.

That is, they shot up the final cost by 43% despite the many imperfections in the project.

The "marble", both for the great financial losses, and for the defects in the works, inevitably, the citizens pay.

Substantial developments in the investigations are expected in one or more months, as we were told, as the taking of deposits by the Police and the "dusting" of bank accounts by the Audit Office continue.
