According to the Turkish Cypriot press, the announcement was made yesterday at a press conference by the "mayor" of Famagusta, Ismail Arter. It is the first time that part of the fenced area will be opened after 1974 for non-military civilians, some Turkish newspapers note, however Ismail Arter said that it was reopened a few years ago, but closed again for various reasons and after a while .

Mr. Arter stated that the beach is 240 meters long, will have 240 beds and a buffet for food. According to the protocol signed by the "municipality" with the occupying forces, which will be automatically renewed every year, this beach will be operated by the "municipality" between May 15 and October 29, from 8 am to 10 am night.

Mr. Arter said that Famagusta has a problem with access to beaches, with the "public" (without ticket) beaches being only in Klapsides and Silver (Silver). The beach of Deryneia, as the one that will now operate is called, is within the area under the control of the Turkish forces and the protocol was signed on July 14th. The works, he added, will be completed in 15 days and the beach will be open in early August.
