Countries that refuse to accept more asylum seekers from other - already burdened - Member States will be required to pay 60.000 for each of them within five years, according to a proposal by the Maltese European Presidency.

Instead, countries that accept refugees will be compensated with the corresponding amount for this period. The relevant document is available to the German News Agency (dpa), which broadcasts the news.

However, such compensation will be received by the member states if the European Commission / Commission confirms that a country has indeed been significantly burdened. However, the European Council, made up of leaders of EU member states, could halt the initiative, according to the dpa.

Under this plan, those countries that refuse to accept asylum seekers will alternatively be able to participate in tackling the problem with border guards or asylum specialists.

At the same time, this document speaks of a maximum distribution of 200.000 refugees. In "critical circumstances", when this threshold is reached, the leaders of the Member States will decide what is to be born.
