The besieged city of Famagusta was visited by the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey in charge of Cyprus, Recep Akdag, who is paying a two-day illegal visit to the occupied territories.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Akdag noted that this is his first visit to Famagusta and his goal is to learn more about the city. He also noted that his visit to Famagusta does not fall within the framework of any initiative and for this reason he will not have a meeting with groups wishing to open the enclosed city.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey in charge of Cyprus was accompanied by Serdar Denktaş. The two will attend a later lunch and then Mr. Akdag will leave for Turkey.
