The twinning process of the Municipality of Serres with the Municipality of Ayia Napa was completed on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Ayia Napa.
The Mayors of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos and Serres, Petros Angelidis, in a special ceremony, co-signed the official documents and stated their intention for the two Municipalities to move forward twinned towards the future.
It should be reminded that in a similar ceremony on May 13, 2017 in Serres, the two Mayors signed respective declaration and commitment documents for the twinning of the two Municipalities.
The Mayor of Serres, Petros Angelidis, in his speech, among other things, referred to the possibility of cooperation between Serrai producers and businesses of tourist interest in Ayia Napa, saying the following:
"Serres also has a high level in the field of gastronomy. Serrai food products that reach the shelves of stores, kitchens and consumers' dishes, stand out for their taste and quality. For example, the breeding of buffaloes in the Serrai plain, ouzo, the famous Serrai Turkish delight "akane", canned agricultural products, can be the first bridges of our cooperation. I can therefore predict with optimism in the field of cuisine and gastronomy a cooperation of mutual interest between your Hotels and the Serrai producers ".
The twinning of the two Municipalities gives the opportunity to jointly promote collaborations, in the interest of both Municipalities on both sides.
Indicatively the two Municipalities can cooperate for:
- Co-operation of European programs.
-Interest issues with entrepreneurship and trade exchanges.
-The promotion of the monumental heritage.
-Cultural activities, promotion of the natural wealth of the two regions, utilization of tourist opportunities, business collaborations, etc.
The Deputy Mayors Meretoudis Dimitris, Grigoriadis Christos, the authorized municipal councilor Panagiotis Grigoriadis, the municipal councilors Mystakidis Pavlos, Sultana Georgoula and the cultural association of Eptamyla "Oi Akrites" participated in the mission.
