After the meeting, Mr. Kougialis told reporters that "we had a constructive meeting with the agricultural organizations. Issues of the Cereals Committee, issues of agricultural insurance and issues of the Potato Trade Council were discussed.
The President gave the necessary assurances that the Government cares for the farmers and the rural economy and all the decisions that will be taken will be in the interest of our farmers, and we will be in constant contact with the agricultural organizations to solve any problems that arise. ».
Asked how the organization of the sector concerning the Cereals Committee is progressing, Mr. Kougialis said that "a decision has been taken for the Cereals Committee, which mainly concerns the marketing of cereals by the Commission. The Commission is currently operating under the same regime as before. Some time will be given to the Commission, to the new Board of Directors, to make these changes and at the same time, the agricultural organizations will submit a memorandum, a new proposal to the President of the Republic that will be studied by the Government. They have some different views which as a Government we are ready to study ".
Asked if these are substantive differences, Mr. Kougialis said that "I consider these differences to be substantial. We are waiting for the proposal of the agricultural organizations, which we will study very seriously. On the issue of marketing, agricultural organizations insist that the Commission should continue to market cereals. That's the difference. "
