A gathering of Democratic Party executives took place on Thursday night in Paralimni.

The gathering, which took place on Wednesday, April 26, at the Gardening Association in Paralimni, was essentially the beginning of the election campaign of the President of DI.KO. for the 2018 Presidential Elections.

Today, Thursday, at 16:45 in the afternoon, the Executive Office of the party will convene in order to formulate a proposal for the candidacy of Nikola Papadopoulos in the presidential elections, which will be presented 45 minutes later (the session is scheduled for 17:30 before the Central Committee for ratification.

Having already secured the support of EDEK and the Solidarity Movement (expecting support from the Movement of Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation) around the candidacy of the president of their party, DIKO wants to give a solemn tone to the current announcement of the candidacy of Nikolas Papadopoulos.

In this context, an effort of the leadership of DIKO is as much as possible the maximum participation of the members of the Central Committee (there are around 180), but much more, the decision to ratify the candidacy of Nikolas Papadopoulos to be taken unanimously.

It is noted that the current composition of the Central Committee of DIKO is considered to be controlled by approximately 60% -70% by the president of the party.

What is required is, like all the other members of the House, that theoretically speakers belong to the so-called internal opposition, to follow and do not raise any issues, so that a vote is needed.

And this, since such a development would remove from the solemn character that they want to give to DIKO tomorrow against the background of the official announcement of their presidential candidacy.

N. Papadopoulos: New strategy for a sustainable solution

"The Cyprus issue is in its worst phase ever, due to the growing Turkish intransigence and the position of our side is very difficult, due to the political inadequacy and the failure to prevent and deal with the harsh stance of the Turkish side," said the Democratic Party President. Nikolas Papadopoulos, speaking at the gathering of the executives of the Democratic Party of Famagusta District, in Paralimni.

"Turkey's illegal and provocative actions in our EEZ, unfortunately confirm the estimates and forecasts of the Democratic Party", noted Mr. Papadopoulos and added:

"We had warned that with the passage of the Akinci law, we would encourage and provoke further expansionism, provocation and aggression on the part of Turkey, and unfortunately, we see that today."

Nikolas Papadopoulos called on President Anastasiadis to explain to the people how he intends to deal with the Turkish provocation and "how he intends to deal with the continuing violations" and stressed:

"Because, our assessment and finding is that the policy of generous offers, the policy of surrender and retreat, the naive policy of consolation of Turkey, has failed, has broken the Turkish intransigence."

The President of the Democratic Party testified that "the hope and the prospect for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem have been removed".
"Only with a new strategy can we create the conditions for a lasting, functional and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem. The Democratic Party submitted its proposals for the new strategy on February 13. They have not been discussed yet. President Anastasiadis and the leaders of DISY and AKEL do not show any willingness to discuss. "The only way to achieve a change in strategy and policy is to achieve a change in government," said Nikolas Papadopoulos, referring to the decision of the Interim Party parties for the presidential elections.

"The decision of April 24 is historic. "The Intermediate Space laid the foundations for cooperation with the aim of political change and the liberation of our country from the failed strategy in the Cyprus issue and the failed governance", said the President of the Democratic Party and thanked the President of the Social Democrat Movement EDEK, Marinos the initiatives she undertook to support his candidacy, the President of the Solidarity Movement, Eleni Theocharous, for her decision to withdraw her candidacy and to support her and the President of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation, George Perdiki, for his intention to put his candidacy in the collective organs of the Movement.

"With the ratification of the decision by the competent bodies of the Parties, we begin a collective effort, in which I call and hope that the Citizens' Alliance will participate, as well as other social groups and all citizens who share the need for political change. We are launching a collective effort that responds to the demand of the citizens to work together with the aim of an alternative, assertive policy that will lead to a correct and functional solution of the Cyprus problem and to the development of the Cypriot Economy with social cohesion. We are starting a collective effort that will give the Cypriot people dignity, hope, perspective ", concluded Nikolas Papadopoulos.
