Evagoras Pallikaridis, a student of the XNUMXnd Lyceum, is one of the first to run for the homeland, leaving behind parents, school, classmates and friends.

The most beautiful depiction of the hero-student is the one that Fotis Varelis brought to life in his immortal poem:

"A bell rings, everyone enters their class.
The first one is the naughty one and the third one is reading
enters the fifth unspoken, the class of Evagoras.
-Are you all present? - Sir, Evagoras is missing.
-Present !! says the teacher and in a trembling voice:
Get up, Evagoras, tell us Greek history.
The side, the back and the front, silent and tearful,
they wonder at first, until their silence makes
to fall in love with this and the whole class.
-Pallikaridis, excellent! Evagora always first!
To the first ones, he announced the homeland of glory,
Until yesterday, your mother's hope and button
and our school today Monday Presence… ”

Before Evagoras joined the guerrilla groups in the area, he went through the High School and left the following note to his classmates:

“Old classmates. Someone is missing from you right now. Someone leaving in search of some fresh air. Someone you may never see again but dead. Do not weep at his grave. It does not make you cry. Scatter a few Mayan flowers on his grave. That's enough for him… Hello old classmates. I am writing the last words today for you and whoever wants to find a lost brother, an old friend, let him take an uphill let him take paths to find the stairs, which are all in freedom… ”

One day, carrying a machine gun, he fell into an English ambush and was arrested. He was subjected to all kinds of torture, but Evagoras remained steadfast. At the trial, the English judge, after reading the accusation, asked him if he had anything to say before submitting the accusation to him and said boldly to the English judge:

"I know you will hang me. "Everything I did, I did as a Greek Cypriot, who fights for his freedom."

Pallikaridis heard his death sentence upheld by hanging. But even the heavy atmosphere of his prison did not bend his soul. The brave lad lived with the vision of freedom. He gave his family courage until the last moment before he got on the gallows. He asked his mother to bring him his cross, so that he could walk with him to the gallows.

Twenty minutes after midnight on March 13, 1957, English law followed suit. The gallows completed its work as Evagoras sang patriotic songs. The sacrifice of the model of morality and heroism for the new generation.

Eternal memory, immortal teenager Evagoras. Teenagers will have their idols and a guide to the army that must lead to their recognition.
