Specifically, the Police are examining three different incidents:

The first incident took place in the lights of Milan in Nicosia, where students caused damage to a Turkish Cypriot car, which did not want to file a complaint with the Police. Men from the Force transported the Turkish Cypriot to the Agios Dometios roadblock from where he returned to the occupied territories.

The second incident took place on Griva Digeni Street when young people caused damage to a second Turkish Cypriot vehicle, injuring the driver in the eye. The victim was taken to Nicosia General Hospital for first aid.

The third incident took place on Hytron Street in Nicosia, where again young people threw stones at a vehicle with license plates, injuring two other people in the chest who were taken to the hospital for treatment.

As a precautionary measure, the United Nations closed the roadblock on Ledra Street, while a strong police force is in the area, as there are reports that the riots are moving towards the roadblock of Ledra. Therefore, it is temporarily forbidden to come to and from the occupied areas from this point.

Police are in the early stages of investigating the case, taking statements and examining some evidence from closed surveillance circuits.

The reaction of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, was immediate, condemning the attacks on the Turkish Cypriots in a written statement.

In detail, the statement of President Anastasiadis is as follows:

"I consider unacceptable and condemnable the behavior of foes against our Turkish Cypriot compatriots who offer a handy service to the paid effort to find a peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem.

Such completely unacceptable behaviors only consolidate the mistrust between the two communities for the possibility of peaceful coexistence.

Beyond that, however, they give arguments to those who invoke the need for guarantees or guarantor powers.

I would like to emphasize that the state is not going to tolerate such behavior by individuals or minority groups that invoke pseudo-patriotism with the aim of permanently dividing our country.

I express my deepest condolences to my Turkish Cypriot compatriots for what was unacceptable today, which does not reflect the feelings of the vast majority of Greek Cypriots for peaceful coexistence and promising prospects for the future, "he said.
