The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Sotira Mr. George Takkas, Municipal Councilors, Father George as a representative of the Church of the Savior and the Catholic Congregations, a representative of the Club of Friends of the Motorcycle of Famagusta Mr. Kompasos Mr. Zanposos Mr. Zannos but also a large number of citizens of Sotira who voluntarily expressed their desire to join the Voluntary Group.
In a presentation of the problems that will be the responsibility of the volunteer groups, Father George stressed that in Sotira there is a large number of families, who suffer from unemployment and poverty and therefore need material and psychological support.
The Mayor Mr. George Takkas added that the charitable groups aim, in addition to the charitable work, to raise the awareness of the citizens of Sotira in matters of cleanliness, repair of material damage, such as painting walls with spray, and even creating a sense of responsibility towards community projects, such as parks or green spaces.
Ms. Eleni Takka, who had the whole initiative of setting up these Groups, presented the value and importance of Volunteering and suggested the groups, which will be formed taking each one their own responsibilities.
Considering the immediate help of our needy couriers more basic and imperative, it was prepared Reinforcement and Support Team, which will undertake -in collaboration with the Church of the Savior- the collection of food and clothes for needy families of the Savior. Suggestions were also made for the subsequent formation of a group Nurses, which will be responsible for blood donations, medical examinations or the immediate provision of First Aid, team Motorcyclists, which in collaboration with the Club of Friends of Motorcycles of the Province of Famagusta, will be in charge of collecting financial aid with lotteries and the Love Marathon.
