The students of the XNUMXth grade of the XNUMXrd Elementary School of Sotiras became directors, screenwriters and actors in order to sensitize the other students and the society about the benefits of frying.
The school participates in the program by supporting school environmental upgrading and social participation and encouraging social entrepreneurship.
Tiganokinisi is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture, in collaboration with the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute and the Non-Profit Organization, AKTI Center for Studies and Research.
What is frying:
Tiganokinisi is an educational, environmental program for the collection of used cooking oils, which is successfully applied in more than 200 educational units throughout Cyprus. Through the Program we convert this waste into biodiesel and provide resources for environmental education activities and support of environmental infrastructure for our schools and students throughout Cyprus! At the same time we promote green jobs, employing young, unemployed scientists!
We can all support this effort. We collect the used oils from the pan, the oven, the tuna, our salad in a durable container (eg a bottle of oil, water or milk) and give it to a student in our neighborhood to take to school.
With its information, awareness and active participation, the citizen can turn a very harmful waste, cooking oils, which destroy aquifers, pollute the soil and clog pipes and sewers, into "fuel", for the development and progress. Our goal is for Tiganokinisi to become part of the everyday life of every citizen!
Under the program, students will take to school the frying oils used in their homes and with special treatment will turn them into biodiesel which will then be used to heat classrooms.
With the control of the quantity of frying oils that has been collected from the schools that participated in the program "Frying Movement", during the school year 2014-2015, a relevant announcement was made by the Ministry of Education. The school, based on the quantities it collected during the last school year, is one of the first schools in Cyprus and is the first in the province of Famagusta! In particular, during the school year 2014-2015, the school collected 1.178 kilos of oil.
