The Municipality of Ayia Napa installed semi-submersible bins in 36 parts of the city. On Thursday, December 22, a ceremony of receiving the bins was held by the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Giannis Karousos, in the presence of the director of the Department of Environment Mr. Costas X ”Panagiotou and the Contractor Spyros Stavrinidis & ESE GmbH Consortium.

Semi-submersible bins are part of the equipment, which is installed within the European solid waste reduction program of coastal hotel units and near related mass production sites, which is implemented by the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Ayia Napa.

With the installation of the semi-submersible bins, the Municipality aims at promoting the separate collection of recyclable and organic waste from large producers such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, etc.

The Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos expressed his gratitude to the Department of Environment for the help but also for the good cooperation so that the specific project which aims to protect the environment can be achieved successfully.

On his part, the Director of the Department of Environment Mr. Costas X "Panagiotou praised the very good cooperation between the staff of the Municipality and the Department of Environment and hoped that the operation of the project with the new tourist season will give tangible results of success in the field of recycling.
