Pomegranate consumption can reverse damage to arteries caused by poor nutrition, according to a new study.

Scientists from the Catalan Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in Spain have found that pomegranate strengthens arteries thanks to its polyphenols, which cleanse the entire cardiovascular system.

According to scientists, pomegranate plays a very important role in the health of blood vessels and their sensitive walls, namely the endothelium, which produces substances that regulate the contraction and dilation of blood vessels. Endothelial damage paves the way for the development of atherosclerosis, which in turn causes heart attacks and strokes.

Previous studies have shown that the beneficial properties of pomegranate are due to the fact that its components are absorbed more efficiently by the body, which is not the case for most foods.

The new study was presented at the conference of the European Society of Cardiology, where scientists stressed that when pomegranates are not missing from the diet, they slow down or even prevent endothelial dysfunction, precisely because they are high in polyphenols.

According to the Daily Mail, another recent study showed that pomegranate juice is just as effective in circulatory and especially for people who have problems with arteries due to high cholesterol.

In particular, one glass a day improves blood flow to the heart by at least 30%, as it contains almost three times the amount of antioxidants than green tea.
