The Municipality of Sotiras recently participated in a two-day gastronomic exhibition by promoting the newly certified Kolokasi Sotiras with a Certificate of Designation of Origin (PDO).
The exhibition was held in The Hague at the "Hotelschool The Hague" in the Netherlands, which is among the top five food and tourism schools in the world with 45% of students coming from foreign countries.
The organization of the exhibition was an initiative of the Municipality of Sotiras, the Embassy of Cyprus in the Netherlands, IHE-Innovative Hospitality Education and KEO with the support of the Cyprus Tourism Organization.
The contribution of George Zachariadis, a third-year student of "Hotelschool The Hague" was important, who undertook the entire organization of the event at the school.
In the exhibition, the Municipality of Sotiras was represented by the Mayor of Sotiras, Mr. George Takkas and the award-winning Executive Chef Antonis Attounis, as ambassador of the Municipality of Sotiras for the promotion and promotion of Kolokasios Sotiras abroad.
The two-day events were attended by teachers and students of the school as well as other guests who had the opportunity to taste dinner based on the savior kolokasi in one of the restaurants of the School.
At the same time, a workshop was organized in which students and teachers could get to know Kolokasi Sotiras better, as well as other Cypriot products, such as halloumi, carob honey and Commandaria.
At the same time, a lecture on Cypriot cuisine was presented, while dishes with zucchini were presented at the International Gastronomy Exhibition of the School.
As part of the events, a formal dinner was hosted at the school's two restaurants, Le Debut and Zinq, where Executive Chef Antonis Attounis created a dinner using recipes that were presented during the 2nd Kolokassi Tasting Night in September 2016.
The menu consisted of an appetizer with halloumi and tomato timbale, an octopus skewer with ravioli stuffed with zucchini and shrimp in red goulash puree, a main dish with beef in zucchini kapama and a dessert of sweet zucchini cream with kharou sex.
The aim of the event, as explained by both Mayor Sotiras and George Zachariadis, was to promote the traditional product of Sotiras abroad, while as mentioned, there was a significant impact on the interest of the attendees, as emphasis was placed on the use of colostrum as a product in the kitchens, as it is an easy product in terms of its use, since it can be used both as a main dish and as a dessert.
Within the framework of the visit of Mayor Sotiras, an official dinner was organized with the Ambassador of Cyprus to the Netherlands, Mr. Elpidoforos Oikonomou, while a meeting was held with the Ambassador of Greece to the Netherlands, with members of the University Board and the Consul of Cyprus , Mr. Nikos Argyridis.
