The works for the opening of the roadblock in Deryneia are progressing smoothly. Specifically, the works are expected to be completed by September, according to what the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, said:

"Today we saw that all the houses for the state services have been installed and the works for the installation of the shelters have started, which we hope will be installed by the beginning of September."

According to information, the works are at an advanced stage and on the occupied side, although they have not progressed to the same degree.

The area of Deryneia is a plain, in contrast to that of Lefka, where the roadblock that the Turkish side wants to open is located, and where the crews of the Department of Public Works encounter environmental and morphological difficulties.

For the Deryneia roadblock, competent sources said that a tender has not yet been announced for the undertaking of the works that should be done in the 150 meters located in the Dead Zone, although the political decision for financing the project by the European Union has been taken before while the required European funds are already at the disposal of the United Nations Development Program.

The completion of all the works will reactivate Famagusta Avenue, which before the Turkish invasion of 1974 connected the area of Kokkinochoria with the city of Famagusta.
