The Mayor of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, is ready to claim another term at the helm of the Union of Municipalities.
In his exclusive statements to SIGMA, Mr. Galanos said that "although it is too early, he expresses the desire to reclaim the presidency of the Union of Municipalities. At the same time, information from SIGMA states that there is a second suitor. The Mayor of Nicosia also wants the presidency of the Union of Municipalities.
In a telephone conversation we had with him, he did not rule out the fact.
He replied, however, that he did not wish to make a statement. The elections between the candidates will take place on February 20.
It is attended by representatives of town halls and the executive body.
In the morning, the Minister of Interior had a meeting with Alexis Galanos at his ministry with whom they discussed issues related to local government.
Earlier, Mr. Hasikos met with the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, with whom they inaugurated a round of contacts. The discussion revolved around Turkish Cypriot properties in the Mackenzie area, from which local authorities derive large revenues.
According to Mr. Hasikos, there is an issue of legitimacy of the management and solutions must be given, without, as he said, "killing the hen with the golden eggs".
