The most corrupt and in fact with a difference from other institutions included in the sample shows a survey of the Cyprus Institute of Statistics political parties and civil servants.

The survey was conducted on a sample of 613 people, and the political parties, as well as public officials (ie officials and employees) emerged as the most corrupt institutions with percentages of 29% and 24% respectively.

They are followed by the municipalities / community councils, which were judged to be corrupt by 15%, while the Parliament was in fourth place with 14%.

Private sector companies received 8% of the views, always in terms of corruption, the judiciary 6%, while the media were in last place with 4%.

In fact, in the case of parties and civil servants, the percentages appear higher compared to a survey conducted in 2014, a year in which the last citizen apparently began to realize that no matter what stone you lift, you will find a towing scandal.

For the parties, the 2014 survey showed corruption at 25%, while in 2016 it rose to 29%, while for civil servants the percentage in 2014 was 20% and the Parliament and the municipalities the percentages decreased from 18% and 19%. in 2014 to 14% and 15% respectively in 2016, while for the other institutions the percentages remained unchanged.

For the Institute of Statistics, it is considered a "very important element" of the research that the inhabitants of the rural areas considered as the first corrupt institution the state officials (31% average in the whole territory) and not the parties, and the explanation given through additional questions were that civil servants are responsible for enforcing the various laws.

The finding that the largest percentage of people who consider the parties the most corrupt institution are graduates of at least secondary education is also considered important.
