Two doors, three-volume coupe body, four seats, rear-wheel drive, sporty character and powerful engines: all the features of a coupe that promises driving pleasure are here in the brand new BMW 2 Series.
The model that essentially replaces the 1 Series Coupe will be launched in European markets in March 2014, a few months after its official premiere at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
Based on the new 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe succeeds and stands out aesthetically, adopting more dynamic lines, but also 72 mm longer in length.
The wheelbase (+30 mm) is also larger, with BMW talking about better passenger and luggage space (390 liters) compared to the hatchback.
The range of the BMW 2 Series Coupe will initially consist of the following versions:
- 220i Coupe with 4-cylinder 2-liter 184 hp petrol engine (0-100 km / h in 7,0 sec, top speed 230 km / h, average consumption 6,1 lt / 100 km, CO2 emissions 142 g / km).
- M235i Coupe with 6-cylinder 3-liter gasoline engine 326 hp (0-100 km / h in 5,0 sec, top speed 250 km / h, average consumption 7,6 lt / 100 km, CO2 emissions 189 g / km).
- 218d Coupe with 4-cylinder 2 liter diesel 143 hp (0-100 km / h in 8,9 sec, top speed 213 km / h, average consumption 4,3 lt / 100 km, CO2 emissions 114 g / km).
- 220d Coupe with 4-cylinder 2 liter diesel 184 hp (0-100 km / h in 7,2 sec, top speed 230 km / h, average consumption 4,5 lt / 100 km, CO2 emissions 119 g / km).
- 225d Coupe with 4-cylinder 2 liter diesel 218 hp (0-100 km / h in 6,3 sec, top speed 242 km / h, average consumption 4,7 lt / 100 km, CO2 emissions 124 g / km).
As we can see, the most powerful version at the moment is the M235i, but it delivers 20 hp less than the 1 M Coupe Series. This essentially confirms that a BMW M2 will follow later.
Until then, BMW took care to endow the M235i with goodies such as M Sport brakes, adjustable M Suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, electronic rear differential lock (integrated in the DSC), but also mechanical differential lock (optional equipment)!
