The very special Citroen Cactus

You realize the feeling of difference as soon as you enter. Two large black screens are looking at you. The interior looks like a concept car like the ones we see in the exhibitions. But let's start from the beginning.

The Cactus is Citroën's new modern crossover. It is design fresh, beautiful, dynamic and! Special! It is a car that stands out and you understand that from the interest of other drivers and the questions at the traffic lights. Undoubtedly its main design finding is the airbumps, the plastics that cover the doors on the side. Theoretically it is a patented system that encapsulates air in certain places, in order to protect it from minor collisions, scratches, etc. It is basically a design feature that ultimately matches the character of the car and is liked by many.

Of course the interior… "is all the money". Memories from the future. We usually find such a simple interior in futuristic concepts. And yet it is functional. Basically there are no instruments… and two… tablets play the role of instruments! It is modern. It is trendy. And works.

The interior is full of innovations that we have never encountered before. It does not have a tachometer. It has a locker in front of the front passenger. The passenger airbag is now on the roof! the rear windows only open outwards at an angle. The steering wheel is not adjustable telescopically! (the last two are past tenses) and in addition there are useful small cases and cup holders. Of course it has one but it is difficult to approach. Otherwise the spaces for the passengers are satisfactory, despite the fact that it is a relatively small car in external dimensions.

There is generally an effort to keep the weight and cost down, with the justification of futuristic design. And this is something that has been achieved to a great extent as well as quality looks and very modern.

Cactus is an exercise. Weighing just 1.160 kg, you can move smoothly and with great margins of active safety despite the small-standard- 1.6 HDI (diesel) engine with 100 hp and 5-speed transmission, which gives it a very satisfactory, 12,4 seconds for 0 -100 km / h. In terms of handling we were impressed, as we found it extremely balanced between comfort and sports personality and this shows the serious work that has been done on the suspension, a field that Citroen certainly "holds", as it has written history…

His greatest qualification, of course, was his impressively low consumption. With my own "taxi" driving, I saw 4.8 liters / 100 km, a price that is hardly close to the competition. In fact, this feature was so strong that we thought the fuel gauge was damaged, as it did not fall with anything. With prices starting from € 13.940 with withdrawal, and with large margins for customization to your measures, the Cactus "bites" with its thorns the competition and is an interesting "Spartan" choice for those who want to stand out.
