The clash that broke out between two Georgian prisoners at the "Crete 1" detention center in Agia Chania, had a tragic end, as one Georgian fell dead with a knife wound to the heart. The perpetrator of the crime is his compatriot, the murderer of the actor Nikos Sergiopoulos with 21 knives, David Murtinelli!

The reasons that caused the bloody incident, shortly after 6 pm on Saturday, have not been clarified yet and are being investigated by the Security police. However, the 43-year-old Mourtinelli was identified who fatally wounded with a makeshift knife his foreign inmate with whom he had come into the hands. An ambulance rushed to the prison and the rescuers tried to keep the injured Georgian alive, but he was stopped and was taken to Chania hospital dead.

The causes of the deadly clash are being investigated by the Security, which forms a case for murder and violation of the law on weapons against the perpetrator, who in two years would complete 15 years of detention and would be released from prison. At the same time, a disciplinary investigation has been ordered in the prisons that, according to "New Crete", accommodate 700 detainees, although their capacity provides for a maximum of 590.

The murder of actor Nikos Sergiopoulos with 21 knives took place on June 3, 2008 inside his house in Pagrati. The Georgian killer, who had met the victim in Victoria Square, was arrested shortly afterwards and the Joint Jury Court of Appeals sentenced him to life imprisonment, which was ruled final by the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court in December 2015.
