A 47-year-old Greek man was present at the hands of the authorities, who pretended to be the doctor and caused the death of three people, including two minors, aged 14 and 16.
The man was arrested on Tuesday in an area of Attica, with an arrest warrant for murder, fraud, drug trafficking and medical malpractice.
A multi-month investigation lasted at least 13 months, during which the extent of the criminal activity of the detainee was fully determined, who, using false identity data, appeared as a neurologist - neurosurgeon - physiotherapist.
The number of patients who cheated is estimated to be high, while at least 45 cases have been identified so far.
In fact, in three of these cases, specifically two minors, aged 14 and 16, as well as a 76-year-old, the patients died. In those cases, the detainee had managed to extract more than 58.000 euros.
He also appeared as a researcher at a major medical center in Switzerland, specializing in pediatric surgery - pediatric oncology, with studies in America and knowledge of innovative methods of treatment, according to the Greek Police.
How he approached patients
As for the methodology he followed, as he approached unsuspecting citizens, either themselves or their relatives, with serious health problems or incurable diseases, he persuaded them to discontinue their medical treatment and to follow "treatment" recommended by him. promising complete healing.
The "treatment" included preparations with substances of unknown origin and chemical composition, without medical indications, which presented as supposedly advanced special drugs - spirits, which, as it emerged in the research, included, among other things, active cannabis substances. Such devices were confiscated at his home, where 65 bottles of different quantities were found.
In many cases, in fact, the detainee appeared in various diagnostic centers, as a doctor - companion of patients, who underwent various examinations or undertook the coordination of surgeries.
By doing so, he was endangering the health and lives of the patients he was deceiving, under the pretext of medical status, by extracting large sums of money. It is noteworthy that in one case of deception a patient received at least 15.000 euros.
He received the money either in cash or in the form of checks. He then made sure to give legitimacy to the amounts he received, mainly by channeling checks into the market, without appearing as a setback.
To further strengthen his "social-professional" profile and become more persuasive, he presented himself as the offspring of wealthy families and / or relatives of well-known families, an executive of the International Committee of the Red Cross and a member of an American investment venture in business and acquaintances. people and in many cases as a doctor and / or pilot of the Air Force.
Three more locals have been identified as his accomplices, while the participation of other persons is being investigated.
It is noted that two more weapons were seized in his home - air guns, two knives, a religious image - possible antiquity, stickers of professional medical identity, handwritten notes with diet plans, herbs, etc., CD with examinations of various patients.
The detainee was taken to the competent Prosecutor.
