The Government, through the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, emphasized development and infrastructure, said the Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, at an event organized by the Paphos Association of Construction and Works Contractors, adding that both the Government and personally as the Minister in charge, will continue to work with the same dedication for the development and progress of the construction industry in our country and for the improvement of the infrastructure of the city and province of Paphos.

In his greeting, Mr. Karousos stated that despite the chronic problems, in the province of Paphos, important infrastructure projects have been launched, road and other, fulfilling the promises of years. Projects, he said, that maximize the potential of many areas for rapid development and progress of their inhabitants.

Always aiming at a long-term economic development, with prudence but also determination, said Mr. Karousos, "the current Government sets goals and seeks effective solutions with the development policy that it implements to face both existing problems of the construction sector, but also to bring significant increase in the growth rate of the largest industry in our country, construction ".

To this end, he continued, the Government has developed an extremely constructive cooperation with the local authorities and the state services of your Province. The results, he said, prove that these projects are a model of good management and a tangible example of good cooperation of all of us for the benefit of the local community.

The Minister of Transport then referred to the projects being promoted in the Paphos District, in order to be implemented as soon as possible.

The most important project that is being promoted in Paphos is, he noted, the new Paphos - Polis highway, adding that the offers for study / construction of the project of the AD Phase (Agia Marinouda-Stroumbi), were announced on 23/5/2019, submitted on 22 / 11/2019 and an award is expected to proceed with the start of the project.

The project mentioned by Mr. Karousos concerns the construction of two lanes of the highway from Agia Marinouda - Stroumbi with a length of 15,5 mm and includes an uneven junction in its connection with the Limassol - Paphos highway and two uneven junctions in Tsada, at its end point after the Stroumbi.

Additional long lanes (approximately 12 km) will also be constructed due to the uphill road, to facilitate overtaking. The cost is around € 73m. + VAT ..

The Minister of Transport stated that in 2020, bids are expected to be announced for the construction of the roundabout at the entrance of Geroskipou, as well as for the construction of a junction at Makarios and Hippocrates Avenue in Geroskipou for the new building of the Hemodialysis Unit and Hospital the construction of the new Police Station in Kouklia, as well as the Protection / Improvement Projects in Chloraka Beach.

Remarkable, he added, are the projects that were completed and brought significant change to both residents and visitors to the city, such as the remodeling of streets in the area of ​​Markideio Theater, the improvement of the main road inside the village of Anarita, the Archaeological Museum and Beach Protection Works in the Area of ​​the Venus Hotel, the construction of 6 additional breakwaters in the area of ​​Geroskipou, the construction of the Paphos Police Directorate (DG Phase) and the extension of the Court.

Also, the periodic road maintenance, the improvement of the Tombs of the Kings avenue, including sustainable mobility projects, the landslide stabilization and reconstruction of the Loukrounos-Simos road section, the paving / maintenance of the main roads as well as many other but important projects.

Mr. Karousos stated that in addition to the works that have already been completed, new projects are underway, such as the unification of the archeological sites of Kato Paphos, the improvement of the road that connects the Center of Geroskipou with the tourist area of ​​Geroskipou, the construction of part of the northern bypass Geroskipou road, within the municipal boundaries of Paphos-Konia, the connecting road between KOT roundabouts and Spyros Kyprianou Avenue in Geroskipou and the improvement works on the existing Paphos-Polis road.

These projects are expected to stimulate, he noted, the construction sector, to create a large number of jobs, to upgrade the infrastructure and at the same time to make a decisive contribution to the further development of the city and Paphos District.

Mr. Karousos called on the Association to make use of the momentum set by the current Government to achieve the goal, which is sustainable construction, upgrading of road networks, promotion of cultural heritage, utilization of new technologies and the improvement of public transport. and many other development and infrastructure projects for your city and the wider area of ​​Paphos District.
