Calling for help for 5-year-old Martha battling cancer - How you can help

5 year old Martha, contributions, call for help, fundraiser, Cyprus, Nea Famagusta

For the last three years, 5-year-old Martha, a girl who was only diagnosed at the age of two and has been fighting daily, claiming the precious good of health, has been fighting cancer for the last three years. Her family did not give up trying to cure little Martha, but the course of the last three years has not been easy.

"F" contacted the godmother of little Martha who explained everything that happened in the last three years since the 5-year-old was diagnosed in 2016 with a rare malignant tumor in the spine. The diagnosis was followed by the first surgery in the same year in Germany and then little Martha underwent chemotherapy.

Despite the tireless efforts of the doctors and her family, the cancer returns more severe. In 2018, little Martha is transferred to Switzerland in order to undergo a second surgery. Although doctors hoped for a cure, the cancer nevertheless had multiple metastases at various points.

The third solution was the transfer of 5-year-old Martha to Denmark, to an institute where she carries out alternative cancer treatment. At first the little one started to show signs of improvement, however the third surgery could not be avoided.

Last Friday, the 5-year-old underwent a third surgery in Switzerland, where she is there with her family. According to the godmother of the 5-year-old, it is still unknown how her health will develop. The family has pinned their hopes on doctors and her return to Denmark to take the drug again for a year so that the tumor does not return. However, after the surgery, radiotherapy will follow in Switzerland.

The treatments were approved by the Ministry. Health but…

The Ministry of Health is on the side of the family, as the godmother of little Martha points out, after approving the transfer of the 5-year-old to Switzerland. He did not even fail to thank for the actions that were taken.

However, as in other cases, so in this one, since no operation could be performed in Cyprus, it was deemed necessary to go abroad with the expenses covered for the little one to relate exclusively to the treatment. The rest of the cost of travel, accommodation and expenses is borne exclusively by the families.

The expenses are unbearable….

It is not an easy process for anyone to publicize their child's health problem in order to ask for help, however there are many families who are called upon to pay exorbitant sums out of their own pockets to be by their children's side in the treatment process. This cost often translates into thousands of euros for trips abroad and accommodation.

The case of little Martha is one of them, as for the last three years their lives have been shared between Denmark and Switzerland. Two countries with high cost of living. Especially now after the third surgery the family needs to travel several times to Switzerland for radiotherapy but also to Denmark for medicine. And here the question logically arises. What about families who are unable to pay the cost of supporting their children?

Fundraiser for little Martha all over Cyprus

With the permission of the Ministry of Interior, with number 5/2019, the family of 5-year-old Martha, has started a fundraiser throughout Cyprus for the financial support of the family regarding the other expenses except the medical ones.
