OSCE observers will simply monitor the June 24 election process and have no police role, OSCE Mission Chief Audrey Glover told a news conference in Ankara, where members of the mission are already based.

He said that in addition to the 12 experts, the OSCE mission will consist of 22 observers working on a long-term basis throughout Turkey and another 350 observers on election day. The observers' report will be released eight weeks after the election.

As Glover stated in the press conference, "we did not come here to intervene, but simply to follow the process. We have no role of police officer or inspector ".

He noted that a third observer always increases the security climate during the election process. He added that the evaluation will be based on international standards and in the context of the Copenhagen document.

"Observers do not control the outcome of the election, only the transparency of the process," said Glover, who added that observers always act impartially.
