Spanish police handcuffed Vladimir Putin's opponent, Bill Browder. Browder is known for his campaign to raise awareness in the West in favor of imposing sanctions on Russia over corruption and the alleged assassination of his main accomplice in Russian prisons, Sergei Maknitsky.
He uploaded the news to his personal Twitter account. "I was just arrested by the Spanish police in Madrid following an arrest warrant issued by the Russian Interpol. "Let's go to the police station now," he said.
Since launching his campaign in 2013, Moscow has tried three times to issue an arrest warrant through Interpol without success. In many of his interviews, Brauder criticized Cyprus and its relations with Moscow, saying that Cyprus was a haven for Russian oligarchs and that money laundering was taking place.
