Two dead and 12 injured in a severe storm in the Moscow region

Two people, including a small child, were killed and 12 others were injured in a severe storm in the Moscow region, according to the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

The winds, which were blowing at speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, uprooted hundreds of trees in Moscow.

"The number of people injured in the storm is 12. And the doctors could not save a little girl who was being treated in a very critical condition," Sobyanin said via Twitter, expressing his condolences to the child's parents.

According to the Ministry of Health, another man lost his life in Mitisi, on the outskirts of Moscow, due to extreme weather conditions.

The airports in the Russian capital are experiencing long delays in flights due to the winds, Interfax reported.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations said that heavy rain and snow is expected, accompanied by strong gusts, during Saturday night to Sunday.
