The unequal distribution of vaccines returned to the fore with the emergence of the Omicron variant, as developed countries that had vaccinated the vast majority of their populations faced a new pandemic wave.
The WHO's constant warnings about the need for simultaneous vaccination of the world population to deal effectively with the pandemic do not seem to be taking place as the initial panic caused by Omicron, the rich countries hastened the administration of the third dose, while some plan the granting of the fourth.
Vaccination around the world
Vaccination data worldwide one year after vaccination is not encouraging as there are countries that have no access to vaccines at all, and only 17,4% of the world's population has been vaccinated with both doses.
So far, according to the Economist, 191 countries have ongoing mass vaccination programs and together they have made about 9,5 billion doses.

So far, 59,9% of the world's population aged 12 and over has received a dose of coronavirus vaccine. The percentage that has received both installments, is at 17.4%.

The first installments given by country
A total of 106 countries have now given first doses to more than half of their population aged 12 and over. Malta is a pioneer in herd immunity, having given the first installments to 102% of the citizens. It is followed by the United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Cuba and Chile.
