Italian President Sergio Mattarella has instructed Professor Giuseppe Conte to form a government.

At the end of his meeting with Mattarella, after a conversation that lasted an hour and fifty minutes, Giuseppe Conte, among other things, stated that: "I accepted the president's order with the prescribed reservation. My program will be based on the agreements of the political forces that support me. We spoke with the Italian President about the critical phase we are going through and I know that the international and European position of our country must be confirmed.

We will deal with the negotiation of the European budget, the right to asylum and the completion of the banking union. I will do what I can in the national interest.

Our country is waiting for a new government and answers. It will be the government of change. The political contract on which it is based represents the demands of the citizens for change. They will also be the basis of government action, with respect for the jurisdictions given to me by the Constitution. It will be a government for the benefit of the people and their interests.

As a lawyer, I have defended many citizens. I will now defend the interests of the Italians, in Europe and internationally. I will be an advocate for the Italian people.

In the coming days I will return to the President of the Republic to resolve the reservation with which I accepted the mandate, and to propose to him, in case of a positive outcome, as I hope, the names for the list of ministers. I do not see the time to start working ".

The Italian caretaker Prime Minister is expected to meet with all political parties tomorrow (although he was nominated only by the Five Stars and the League) and return - probably tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow - to the President of the Republic, with the list of his proposed ministers.
