A 62-year-old man has been arrested in North Carolina on suspicion of manslaughter after throwing his car in the window of a restaurant where he had gone out to eat with his family, killing his daughter and daughter-in-law.
Roger Glenn Self, originally from Dallas, North Carolina, faces two counts of homicide, according to Gaston County Sheriff.
According to the local newspaper Gaston Gazette, on Sunday, Self was sitting at one of the tables of the Surf & Turf Lodge restaurant in Besemer City, when he apologized to his relatives and left. His family members did not worry, thinking that the 62-year-old went to the toilet.
Self took his car, put it in front, developed speed and fell hard at the entrance of the restaurant, where his family was sitting.
"I saw a white jeep pass in front of me at high speed," said Brandon Wilson, a waiter at the restaurant.
"It was really unreal. I saw chairs and tables and cups being thrown everywhere. It looked like a tornado. "
Self's daughter, Caitlin, 26, who worked in Gaston's sheriff's office, was killed on the spot along with his 62-year-old fiancée, Amanda Self. The perpetrator's wife and son Josh, who is a police officer, were seriously injured. His 13-year-old granddaughter is also being treated in a serious condition.
Roger Self is the owner of a private research company. According to family friends, the 62-year-old has been facing psychological problems lately. "She was trying to help herself. "We were trying to get him to help," Austin Rammel, a pastor at a local church, told the newspaper.
