Doctors observed which areas of his brain he used to play

A South African jazz artist, Musa Mancini, had to undergo brain surgery. But although he has played music in many concert venues, the recital he gave in the operating room made him viral.

In the video that saw the light of day we see Mancini (who plays many instruments and teaches at the university) playing his guitar lying on the operating table and surrounded by doctors and nursing staff during the six-hour operation to remove a tumor in the brain.

"I felt very strange and uncomfortable," Mancini told Reuters a week after the operation. "Being between general anesthesia but also awake and listening to the sounds of the flame inside your brain; it is very difficult to concentrate."

Doctors chose to keep Mancini awake to assess which parts of his brain were functioning as the operation progressed, thus helping to reduce the risk of neurological damage.

"It was a success as the biggest risk was paralysis. "I am not paralyzed and I still have control of my limbs and therefore my mood is good and I am recovering well," said Mancini. He even added that after full recovery he will return to the art scene.
