Apple plans to build about 20% fewer iPhone SEs in the next quarter than originally planned, as the war in Ukraine and impending inflation have begun to reduce demand for consumer electronics, well-informed sources told Nikkei Asia .

The tech giant launched these smartphones three weeks ago, but emphasizes to its suppliers that it intends to produce 2 million to 3 million fewer iPhone SE devices compared to the first quarter of the year. At the same time, Apple seems to have informed its device suppliers that it intends to build a few million fewer iPhone 13s compared to the original design.

The company also plans to reduce production of AirPod headphones by 10 million units for the whole of 2022. According to the Nikkei, Apple delivered 76,8 million units of AirPod for the whole of 2021 but for the current year expects a decrease in shipments of these products.

Apple has completely suspended its operation in the Russian market, as part of the sanctions imposed on Moscow for the military invasion of Ukraine.

The company accounted for 16% of total global sales in Russia for 2021, making it the third largest smartphone company in the country, with about 5 million iPhone sales to Russian consumers.
