France: Network of thousands of fake health passes dismantled

A network that made between 5000 and 10.000 counterfeit sanitary passports, with profits estimated at 2 million euros, was partially dismantled in early December in the Mets (east) in France, the French Agency reported today, citing a source close to the case.

A couple was taken into custody in early December, the source said.

The investigation, coordinated by the Paris prosecutor's office, continues in order to identify other participants in the network.

According to the first data of the research, the members of the network managed to access the pharmacists' codes and to make health passes on behalf of these health professionals.

Between 5.000 and 10.000 in total, with a profit estimated at 2m euros, according to a source close to the case.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen announced yesterday the opening of 400 investigations to dismantle networks of fake passports and the arrest of about 100 people.

These arrests target users and traffickers' networks according to their environment. According to his ministry, 110.000 fake health passes have been circulating in France since the measure was introduced in the summer.
