Georgia: 11 dead in hotel fire in Batumi

Eleven people were killed in a fire that broke out today in a hotel in Batumi, Georgia, on the Black Sea, the country's interior minister said.

"Unfortunately, 11 people were killed and 19 were injured in a fire," Giorgi Gacharias told reporters. The fire broke out late Friday on a floor of the Leogrand Hotel and quickly spread.

The hotel was scheduled to host the "Miss Georgia" beauty pageant on Sunday. According to officials, none of the contestants, who were staying at the hotel, were injured in the fire.
