Spain: Final titles for Mariano Rajoy

brexit mariano rajoy Spain, MARIANO BACK, PEDRO SANCHETH, PRIME MINISTER

Defeat admitted by Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy before the vote on the motion of censure submitted by the Socialist Party. In a brief intervention, the outgoing Prime Minister and leader of the People's Party, announced his resignation and congratulated the leader of the Socialists Pedro Sanchez, who will take his place.

The motion of censure of the Socialists is supported by 180 deputies and this is the first time in the history of Spain that a member of parliament will take the helm of the country. A transitional government is expected to be formed.

This time he did not succeed

The 63-year-old Rahoi, although he managed to survive all the crises he had to face during his tenure, this time failed to gather the necessary majority. His departure from the post of Prime Minister is not ruled out to cause upheaval in international markets despite the fact that most Spanish parties are in favor of fiscal rules set by the EU.

Shortly before securing the support of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), Sanchez, addressing Rajoy, said he still had time to go it alone and avoid "humiliation", becoming the first Spanish prime minister to be defeated in a proposal. of reproach. "Are you ready to resign? Resign today and leave of your own free will. "You are in the past, a chapter of the country is closing," he said in his speech.

The PNV backed Rajoy until last week, when it voted in favor of the budget, but decided to withdraw that support after dozens of former executives and other figures associated with the ruling People's Party were sentenced to years in prison for their involvement in a scandal.

Sanchez said that if he takes over as prime minister, he will implement the budget proposed by Rajoy. He will also try to start a dialogue with the leaders of Catalonia.

Earlier, defending his actions, Rajoy told lawmakers that the vast majority of members of the People's Party were "decent and honest" people. "The Socialists have given us a devastated country and we have restored growth and jobs," he said, warning that Sanchez would try to form a "Frankenstein government" that would hurt the economy.
