London: One in 30 with coronavirus

London Mayor Sadiq Khan himself declared a state of alarm in the British capital today, saying that hospitals in London could collapse if people did not stay home.

"Today I declared a major incident in London, because the threat posed by the coronavirus to our city is at a critical juncture," Kahn said.

"One in 30 Londoners now has Covid-19. "If we do not take immediate action, the NHS (National Health Service) could collapse and more people would die," added the mayor of the British capital.

He pointed out that 7.034 people are currently being treated with Covid-19 in the capital, ie 35% more than at the peak of the first wave in April.

In the context of the "major event" situation, public services are called upon to provide a coordinated response to the issue that arises.
