At least one person has been killed and dozens injured after a high-rise building collapsed in Miami.
Eight people have been taken to hospital so far.
The building collapsed at about two in the morning, local time, catching the occupants asleep.
"This is a terrible disaster, the buildings do not fall so easily," said Mayor Charles W. Burkett.
More than 80 rescue vehicles went to the spot where today, early Thursday morning, a part of the building suddenly started shaking and collapsing like playing cards.
The American media are talking about dozens of trapped people.

One of the eyewitnesses, Michael Ruiz, told CNN that "it was something like 11/XNUMX."
"Screams can be heard from the rubble," said another eyewitness near the site of the disaster, Bild reported.

Authorities in South Florida were immediately mobilized when they were informed of the partial collapse of the building.
At present, the causes of the collapse remain unknown.
The building, a 12-story apartment building called "Champlain Towers South," is located near 88th Street and Collis Avenue in Miami Beach, Florida.
