Erotic envy is the motive of the perpetrator

There seems to be a strong erotic element in the case of the shootings at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, where four people died.

The 32-year-old perpetrator, who was identified by sources as Juan Lopez and his ex-fiancée, Dr. Tamara O'Neill, are two of the dead. Officer Samuel Jimenez, 28, was also killed. Jimenez, a married man with three children, had just finished his probationary period as a police officer. The second woman shot by Lopez was a pharmaceutical technician at Mercy Hospital and her name has not been released.

O'Neill and Lopez were scheduled to get married on October 27, but O'Neill annulled the marriage in September. There was a "verbal altercation" between O'Neill and Lopez in the parking lot, Chicago Police Department inspector Eddie Johnson said during a news conference Monday night.

A third person, who said Johnson was friends with "one of the two people", then tried to intervene. "At that moment, the male lifted his shirt and pointed a gun," Johnson added. The acquaintance left the hospital and the immediate action soon received a call for an attack that took place in the parking lot. Just seconds later a second call was made. Shots were fired.

James Gray saw Lopez and O'Neill talking to each other in the parking lot when Lopez suddenly pulled out a gun. "The gentleman turned and shot her three times in the chest," Gray told WLS. "As soon as he fell to the ground, he turned and shot three more times."

After Lopez shot O'Neill again, he shot at a police car that was aimed at him and then entered the hospital.

"Officers watched him with a gun," Johnson said. "He fired a lot of shots to get out of the team car."

Lopez then reportedly shot and killed the other woman inside the hospital elevator in the cold. In the meantime, he had shot at the police officer, who then ended up in the hospital, while he also shot at another police officer, hitting him in his bulletproof vest.
