23-year-old expatriate weightlifter, James Kondylios, died of coronavirus

The former weightlifting champion, although he was double-vaccinated and had no underlying diseases, lost the battle with the virus

The 23-year-old Greek-Australian weightlifter, James Kondylios, who was suffering from a coronavirus, ended up in the "St Vincent's" hospital in Sydney.

The former weightlifting champion, although he was double-vaccinated and had no underlying diseases, lost the battle with the virus.

Friends posted on social media that his death is a reminder that the coronavirus can strike even young and healthy people.

Kondylios grew up in Sydney and attended Waverley College, while in 2015 he was a member of Australia at the World Weightlifting Championships. In the event that took place in Finland he won the bronze medal.

He then completed his studies, earning a master's degree from the National University of Australia in Canberra. In fact, recently he worked as a data scientist in the Department of Social Services of the city, while in 2019 he was awarded a national science prize for his work in forestry and climate change.
