Former Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic, who was involved in crimes during the 1990 Bosnian war, has been found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity by The Hague tribunal.

At the start of the trial, General Mladic seemed calm, even greeting the cameras. Forty-five minutes after reading the verdict, his team of lawyers asked for a break to go to the bathroom.

His lawyers later said he had health issues and asked the judge to delay the process, a request which was rejected.

"They are lying. You are lying. "I do not feel well," he said, shouting at the judges.

Mladic, also known as the "Bosnian butcher", sided with Bosnian Serb politician Radovan Karadic. The events of 1992 unfolded after the referendum of the Muslims of Bosnia and the Croats for the establishment of an independent state. This brought them against the Bosnians of Serbia. The conflict left tens of thousands dead and hundreds of thousands of refugees.

Mladic's army, numbering 180 men, occupied about 70% of Bosnia's territory. In the Srebrenica massacre, at least 7000 men and boys were slaughtered and thrown into mass graves by Mladic's army.
