Salos in Brussels: What the MEP who participated in the epic party said

In a statement, the 58-year-old, who is a member of Orban's party, apologized for violating the measures against the coronavirus, while denying the use of drugs.

His statement in detail:

"The news in the Belgian press reported on a private party in Brussels on Friday. I was present. After the police asked for my ID and - as I did not have an ID - I declared that I was an MEP. The police continued the process and finally with an official verbal warning and drove home.

I did not use drugs. I offered to take a test but they did not do it to me. According to the official announcement of the police, they found an "ecstasy" pill, but it is not mine, I do not know who had it and how it was found there.

I deeply regret the breach of the restrictions on COVID, it was irresponsible of me. I am ready to pay the fine set.

I submitted my resignation on Sunday.

I apologize to my family, to my colleagues, to my voters. I ask them to evaluate my mistake in the background of 30 years of dedicated and hard work. The mistake is strictly personal, I am the only one responsible for it. I ask everyone not to extend it to my country or to my political group (EPP) ".

According to the Brussels Times website, the party took place in the basement of a bar on Rue des Pierres, in the center of Brussels, as confirmed by the prosecutor in the Dutch-speaking Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, very close to the police station.

The 25 people, most of whom were men, were fined for violating the measures for the coronavirus, said a source in the prosecution in the also Dutch-speaking Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, while information states that the police also found drugs, which were confiscated.

The MEP allegedly tried to escape, but was arrested and questioned by police, La Dernière Heure reported.
