Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is accused of corruption and illegal influence, is on trial. The case revolves around a series of wiretapped conversations in 2014, phone calls in which Sarkozy allegedly tried to influence judges who controlled his campaign finances.
Judge Gilbert Azibert and the lawyer for the former French president are also expected to sit in the dock. All three deny the charges against them.
Sarkozy's name is also involved in another case being investigated by French justice for financing his election campaign by then-Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
