The Gaza Strip is once again a boiling cauldron, with international news agencies reporting on clashes and tensions in the run-up to tomorrow's Remembrance Day of the Palestinians and the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem today.

Reuters, citing Palestinian sources, reports that 16 people were killed and more than 500 were injured from Israeli fire.

The death toll rises to more than 70, according to AFP, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli gunfire in the Gaza Strip since mass protests began on March 30.

The Israeli armed forces announced on Monday morning that their planes had dropped leaflets on Gaza, warning Palestinians not to approach the security fence of the common border line.

The Arab League will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the "illegal" relocation of the US embassy in Jerusalem, Egypt's state-run MENA news agency reported today, citing an Arab diplomat.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday at the level of permanent representatives in the Arab League "in response to the illegal decision taken by the United States to move its embassy to Jerusalem," MENA added.

At the same time from Tehran, the speaker of the Iranian parliament called US President Donald Trump a "low-intelligence" man over the decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and called on the Palestinians and the international community to resistance.

"America has entered a cycle of crisis over its strategic decisions and has an immature and risky approach to international affairs," Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani told a news conference on Palestine. granted by Tehran, according to Iranian state television.

"I do not think the President of the United States is capable of assessing the long-term consequences of his actions," he added. With the opening of its embassy in Jerusalem today, the United States is fulfilling President Trump's controversial commitment to recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This decision is contrary to the position of the international community. The UN considers that the status of the holy city should be determined in the framework of an agreement between the two sides, the Israeli and the Palestinian.
