For the second night, thousands of Iranians remained on the streets, in very low temperatures, after the catastrophic and deadly passage of Egelados, which hit the western side of the country.

The government is trying to help the mountainous province of Kermanshah, where hundreds of homes have been destroyed.

More than 450 people were killed and about 7.000 injured when an earthquake struck near the Iran-Iraq border on Sunday night.

Iran has declared Tuesday a national day of mourning. President Hassan Rouhani is due to visit the region.

Iranian officials say 452 people have been killed in the country. In the most sparsely populated areas across the border in Iraq, officials said nine people had been killed and several hundred injured.

Iranian state television said thousands of survivors were surviving another night in makeshift camps or in the countryside. Many of them, their homes are still intact, are afraid to return due to dozens of aftershocks.

One aid agency said 70.000 people needed shelter and the United Nations said it was "ready to help if needed".

Later on Monday, Iranian emergency officials said the search for more survivors was largely over.
