The NHS has 800.000 doses of the vaccine at its disposal, which for the time being will only be given to hospitals, before it is likely to be transferred from next week to about a thousand local vaccination centers and nursing homes. From the beginning of the year, about ten large mass vaccination centers will start operating.

The first to receive the vaccine are citizens over the age of 80, the nursing staff who administer the vaccines, working in nursing homes and if there are surplus doses from the first batch of the drug and the first-line health personnel.

Citizens are asked not to come to hospitals asking to be vaccinated without being invited.

In a statement, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke of a "huge step" in the country's fight against the coronavirus. He stressed, however, that the vaccination program would take time and called on citizens to continue to follow the rules of coronavirus protection during the winter.
