This is a story that even thrillers would not think of. In 2016 an elderly woman was found living in her house with her son's skeleton. Probably for the last two decades. The most shocking? The woman was blind and probably did not even know she was there.
The skeleton was found on September 15 of that year, when a relative went to her house to get some things and take them to the hospital where she was. Upstairs, among the rubbish, her sister-in-law found an intact skeleton, still wearing jeans, socks and a T-shirt, lying on a mattress on the floor.
"It was like a scene from 'Psycho,'" said a police officer who had rushed to the sister-in-law's call, referring to Hitchcock's film, where the protagonist holds his dead mother in the basement.
After investigations, authorities began to believe that the elderly woman did not know that the skeleton was there and that she actually lived with her son's corpse for 20 years. The room was full of cobwebs and rubbish, so much so that you thought "a garbage dump had left all its cargo there," police sources said.
When police spoke to the woman, she replied as if she believed her son had just moved. Her brother admitted that he had not been very close for years and that the beautiful house had been turned into a straw.
Authorities concluded that her son died of natural causes. According to public records, the woman had two sons, Michael and Louis. Relatives said they had seen Louis for 20 years, while Michael had died 13 years earlier.
The conclusion was that the woman lived with her son's corpse for two decades without knowing it, believing that he had simply moved. Tragic story with thriller elements.
