The "mayor", Hassan Santikoglou, expressed concern about the uprising of the 175 Syrian refugees who arrived in the occupied areas on March 21 and live in apartment buildings given by businessmen in the occupied Trikomo.

In statements to the Cyprus newspaper that has the issue on the front page, Mr. Santikoglou stated that the food to these people is provided by the pseudo-state and the needs for medicines are covered by the "municipality". There is no problem in continuing to provide these services, he said, but the refugees are forgotten at the moment and this uncertainty is leading to chaos.

Calling on "state officials" to find a solution to this problem, Mr. Santioglu said that the Syrians do not want to be sent back to Turkey, as their goal is to move to the Greek side.

Speaking to the newspaper, Fezile Osum, a member of the board of the Immigrant Rights Association and a planning coordinator, said that these people had completed the 14 days they had to remain in quarantine and that no cases of coronavirus had been found in the tests they had taken. .

The refugees, he said, are being guarded by the "police" in the apartment buildings where they live and they do not have the right to call anywhere. He noted that some people contacted their relatives, tried to escape by jumping from the balcony and were stopped by the "police".

"They were not even allowed to go out on the balcony," said Osum, who said they should not be sent back to Syria, saying they had first-degree relatives on the E / C side and their only wish was to go there. According to the report, 69 refugees are children, 30 women and 76 men.
