Fire Department: Firefighters are looking here and now - Priority Stations in Vasiliko and then in Ayia Napa
The attempt to fill the vacancies in the Police also drags the Fire Brigade. Offsite is able to know that this sensitive Service, which is especially on the front line in the summer, is "bleeding" since there are 109 vacancies.
The Fire Brigade expects as "mother from heaven" the recruitment of 113 police officers and firefighters on Monday, August 03, 2020. According to Offsite, the last examinations of 2019 show 56 firefighter positions.
However, it seems that the Fire Brigade will not cover all its needs but may be strengthened with 25-30 positions. Covering these positions is an injection for the Service but the gaps will remain. It is also unknown how many more positions will be given to the Fire Brigade after the examinations at the Police on August 29 or whenever they finally take place.
With their recruitment, the new firefighters will receive rapid training at the Firefighters' School in Kaimakli and after three weeks they will staff fire stations.
Priority is the Royal
The highest priority for the Fire Brigade is the manning of the Fire Station in Vasiliko, which will be completed in October or November near the Energy Center.
From there and beyond, another 56 positions are in search, since in the next three years a Fire Station will be built in Ayia Napa that will cover the needs of the Kokkinochoria area. The Station is considered absolutely necessary especially during the summer months.
The Fire Service has 15 manned fire stations throughout Cyprus and 19 rural ones. From the rural two of them in the area of Soleas (Evrychos) and in Stroumbi due to the nature of the areas to operate on a 24 hour basis.
