One country after another is turning the strategy of dealing with the pandemic, at a time when the Omicron variant has not stopped. Hard as indicators are, they remain in percentages that allow neither complacency nor relaxation.

The meeting of the Advisory Scientific Committee with the Minister of Health is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday. As every week, tomorrow the situation will be reviewed, while epidemiologists will present to the Minister of Health measures that should be taken in the coming days.

The epidemiological picture

Until yesterday, January 30, 211 patients were treated in state hospitals, with 74 of them in serious condition. The positivity rate is 2.61% while Cyprus counts a total of 731 pandemic deaths. A total of 253, 350 of our fellow citizens became infected with the coronavirus.

Is the strategy changing in Cyprus as well?

The road map road in the example of other countries (such as Britain) seems to want to apply in Cyprus. When we say roadmap we mean a step-by-step presentation of de-escalation measures over a long period of time.

In her statements to KYPE, Dr. Zoe Dorothea Pana and asked if on Tuesday, during the meeting of the TEU, any possible relaxations will be discussed, Ms. Pana said that "we are in a phase where we may need to review the protocols, the regular laboratory tests and in general the way Cyprus operates within the framework of the security that we must have, since we are still going through a pandemic wave".

"We have to have a discussion on the whole and see what we can simplify, how we can help the world that has suffered so much and together we can find a harmonization in this context," he said.

In the meantime, during tomorrow's meeting, it is not ruled out that measures will be put on the table that will concern the non-vaccinated, such as the entrance to restaurants with a 24-hour test demonstration.
